Lara with her well earned medal!!

I have had an amazing week that was full of new and varied experiences from beginning to end.
On Sunday 8th I attended the Flora London Marathon's 'Meet the Experts Day in London. What an inspiring occasion it was. We listened to talks from David Bedford the Race Director, Sam Murphy one of the UK's leading writers, runner, coach & sports scientist, The Adidas Boys, Steven Seaton from Runners World, Tim Rogers from Realbuzz.com, John Brewer from Lucozade. and of course Liz Yelling an elite marathon runner and Commonwealth Games medallist. I leaned valuable information about running a marathon, i.e. what to expect on the day, training, injury prevention and a lot about health and nutrition. Now it is up to me to put what I learnt into practice.
I had mixed runs - 5, 6 and 8 milers. On my Sunday run I tried something I have never done before. I ran the Hardwick X-Stream 10k cross country race held at Manor House Farm, Hardwick which is totally off road consisting of varied terrain, grassland, ploughed fields, farm track and the famous water crossings. I have never experienced anything like it before. My friend Tara, who ran with me, loved it as much as I did. As I ran through the muddy fields I felt my legs getting heavier and heavier as mud attached itself to my trainers. And then when running through the freezing cold streams the water released the mud which was great, but then to my consternation I found that this in turn weighed me down even more so as my wet clothes as well as my trainers then attracted even more mud! Although it felt as if I was running with weights on my feet it was an awesome experience and I look forward to doing this type of run again after the marathon...possibly the Hell Runner this coming November.

These shoes were once white!!
I am starting to feel a little anxious for two reasons. Firstly, my mileage is about to increase. Secondly, and even more worrying, I am starting to get twinges in my lower back. However I am trusting that with massage, stretching and the correct food this will soon be sorted out. Bring on the mileage!
Until next week...
