Lara after The Great West Run Half Marathon
Intro to Lara:
I started running just over 2 years ago after watching my friend Lisa run a Marathon. Inspired is the only word I can use to describe the feeling I felt when seeing her cross the finish line. I decided there and then that I was going to start running. I booked myself into a Half Marathon giving myself 6 weeks to learn how to run. I completed Bedford half marathon in 1:52 feeling very proud. I have now completed 5 half marathons and I'm ready for a new challenge.
I applied to FLM the moment the ballet opened but along with 1000's of others and I was unsuccessful, I also applied through a few charities not really believing that it would amount to anything.
Then came the phone call that was to change 2009 for me! MIND called me offering me a gold bond place; I was speechless which is a first for me. It took nearly a week for it to sink in, to believe this was really happening.
You may ask why a marathon & why MIND?
Over the past 10 years I have been on a long painful struggle, battling anorexia & drug addiction. I'm now 5 years clean & every day gets a little easier. I was one of the lucky ones and with the support of my family & friends, I'm still alive to tell my story. I was given a second chance at life. Now it's my turn to give a little back, to help others, to give them a chance.
So that's a little about me, my past and how I got into running.
Now to the future, to train over the next 4 months to complete a the worlds famous London marathon & to raise money for MIND a mental health charity.
Please stay in touch with my blog on this website as I keep you updated on my training, the races I'm running, my highs & low's, the blisters I have, the walls I hit and the achievements I make.
